Getting started
What UDI Compass does, who it helps, and where to begin.
What is UDI Compass?
UDI Compass is an independent medical-device directory and inventory lookup service based on public EUDAMED records. Search a device identifier, explore manufacturers and device families, check stored certificate information, or match a CSV inventory against our snapshot. Paid plans add saved inventories, monitoring, PDF scan summaries and, on the API plan, programmatic access.
Link to this answer: What is UDI Compass?Who is UDI Compass for?
It is designed primarily for quality-assurance teams at EU medical-device importers and distributors. Consultants, procurement teams, healthcare organisations and manufacturers can also use the public directory to find registry information. The service supports a document-checking workflow; it does not make clinical or market-access decisions for you.
Link to this answer: Who is UDI Compass for?Is UDI Compass an official EUDAMED or European Commission service?
No. UDI Compass is published by Snoeters Software and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the European Commission or EUDAMED. Official EUDAMED remains the source to verify a record. A manufacturer appearing in our directory is not necessarily a customer or partner.
Link to this answer: Is UDI Compass an official EUDAMED or European Commission service? Can I use the app without an account or subscription?
Yes. Public directory search and device, manufacturer, family and EMDN pages are available without a paid subscription. The public scanner provides a 5-identifier preview per file. Saved inventories, persistent watches and PDF reports require a paid plan; API keys require the API plan.
Link to this answer: Can I use the app without an account or subscription? How do I look up my first medical device?
Enter a UDI-DI, Basic UDI-DI, manufacturer SRN, device name or manufacturer name in the site search. Open the matching record and compare the identifier and manufacturer with your product documentation. For a list of identifiers, export a CSV and use the UDI Scanner.
Link to this answer: How do I look up my first medical device? Can a lookup confirm that a device is compliant, safe or legal to sell?
No. A lookup reproduces registry fields and stored certificate status. It does not assess the physical item, intended use, labelling, instructions, clinical evidence or your regulatory obligations. Use it to locate information, then verify the official record and supporting documentation before relying on it.
Link to this answer: Can a lookup confirm that a device is compliant, safe or legal to sell? Can I register a device or change an official EUDAMED record here?
No. UDI Compass is a lookup and monitoring service. It does not issue identifiers, submit registrations, obtain certificates or edit official records. Manufacturers and other responsible actors must use the appropriate official registration process.
Link to this answer: Can I register a device or change an official EUDAMED record here?Does UDI Compass use AI to judge devices?
No. The service matches identifiers, displays public registry fields and reports changes in its snapshot. It does not use an AI model to score devices or make a compliance decision.
Link to this answer: Does UDI Compass use AI to judge devices?UDI & device identifiers
UDI-DI, UDI-PI, Basic UDI-DI, GTIN and the codes on your labels.
What does UDI mean?
UDI means Unique Device Identification. A UDI identifies a medical device and supports traceability. It combines a device identifier (UDI-DI) with applicable production information (UDI-PI). UDI Compass primarily looks up the device identifier.
Link to this answer: What does UDI mean? What is a UDI-DI?
A UDI-DI is the device identifier: the part identifying a manufacturer and a particular device. It is the main input for an individual-device lookup. It is different from a lot number or serial number.
Link to this answer: What is a UDI-DI?What is a UDI-PI?
A UDI-PI is the production identifier. Depending on the device, it includes information such as a lot, serial number or production-related date. UDI Compass does not provide unit-level or lot-level traceability.
Link to this answer: What is a UDI-PI?What is a Basic UDI-DI, and how is it different from a UDI-DI?
The Basic UDI-DI is a regulatory grouping key used in device documentation and related records. A UDI-DI identifies a particular device; a Basic UDI-DI connects related devices. Use a family page to explore the devices we have under that grouping.
Link to this answer: What is a Basic UDI-DI, and how is it different from a UDI-DI?Will I find the Basic UDI-DI on the product barcode?
The Basic UDI-DI is a documentation and database identifier rather than the identifier on the product’s UDI carrier. Check the manufacturer’s declaration of conformity or other regulatory documentation. Do not substitute a product catalogue number for it.
Link to this answer: Will I find the Basic UDI-DI on the product barcode? What is a GTIN, and why does UDI Compass show 14 digits?
GTIN means Global Trade Item Number, an identifier used in the GS1 system. For supported GS1 identifiers, UDI Compass uses a 14-digit canonical form, adding leading zeroes to valid shorter GTINs where appropriate. The original shorter form can therefore lead to the same device record.
Link to this answer: What is a GTIN, and why does UDI Compass show 14 digits? What is a check digit? Does a valid check digit prove registration?
A check digit is calculated from the other digits to help detect typing errors. Passing the GS1 check-digit test does not prove that a device is registered, certified or genuine. UDI Compass keeps invalid-check-digit GS1 source entries out of its normal device records.
Link to this answer: What is a check digit? Does a valid check digit prove registration? What are GS1, HIBCC, ICCBBA and IFA?
They are UDI issuing entities with different identifier systems. UDI Compass has explicit normalisation for GS1, HIBCC and ICCBBA. This does not mean every code or carrier format is supported; in particular, do not assume IFA-specific parsing is available.
Link to this answer: What are GS1, HIBCC, ICCBBA and IFA?Are a barcode, a DataMatrix, an HRI and a UDI the same thing?
A barcode or DataMatrix is a machine-readable carrier. HRI means human-readable interpretation: the text people can read. The UDI is the identification information carried by those representations. A complete carrier may include production information that is not the UDI-DI needed for lookup.
Link to this answer: Are a barcode, a DataMatrix, an HRI and a UDI the same thing? What do (01), (10), (17) and (21) mean in a GS1 barcode?
These are GS1 application identifiers: (01) introduces the GTIN, (10) the batch or lot, (17) the expiration date and (21) the serial number. For a reliable device lookup, use the device identifier following (01). Do not use a lot number or expiration date as the device identifier.
Link to this answer: What do (01), (10), (17) and (21) mean in a GS1 barcode?What is a Master UDI-DI?
Master UDI-DI is a grouping solution for certain highly individualised devices, including specified optical devices. It is distinct from Basic UDI-DI. Follow the official guidance for its scope and use.
Link to this answer: What is a Master UDI-DI?Can I use a REF, catalogue number, SKU, lot or serial number?
A REF or catalogue number identifies a product in a manufacturer’s catalogue; an SKU is often an internal stock code. These are not automatically UDI-DIs. Lot and serial numbers concern production or individual units. If you only have one of these values, obtain the UDI-DI from the label or supplier; name search can help find candidate records.
Link to this answer: Can I use a REF, catalogue number, SKU, lot or serial number? Why do a unit, box and carton have different identifiers?
Different packaging levels can have different UDIs. Match the identifier for the packaging level you are checking, and compare the manufacturer and description. A related box-level record should not silently replace the identifier on a single unit.
Link to this answer: Why do a unit, box and carton have different identifiers? How should I keep UDI values intact in a spreadsheet?
Format identifier columns as text before importing or pasting. Preserve leading zeroes and meaningful characters such as a leading plus sign. Avoid scientific notation and spreadsheet rounding. If digits have already been lost, recover them from the original export or label; changing the cell format afterwards cannot restore them.

The organisations, classifications and documents behind the records.
What is a medical device or a medical-device accessory?
A medical device is a product intended by its manufacturer for specified medical purposes. An accessory is intended to enable or assist a device’s medical function. The intended purpose and applicable rules matter; UDI Compass displays source records rather than deciding whether a product qualifies.
Link to this answer: What is a medical device or a medical-device accessory? What is EUDAMED?
EUDAMED is the European Database on Medical Devices. It brings together information about devices, actors, certificates and other regulatory activities. UDI Compass indexes selected public information from it; it is not a mirror of every module or a route into restricted records.
Link to this answer: What is EUDAMED?What are MDR and IVDR?
MDR is Regulation (EU) 2017/745 on medical devices. IVDR is Regulation (EU) 2017/746 on in vitro diagnostic medical devices. The regulation shown on a record describes its recorded regulatory framework; it is not an assessment performed by UDI Compass.
Link to this answer: What are MDR and IVDR?What is an IVD?
IVD means in vitro diagnostic medical device: a device intended to examine specimens from the human body to provide information, such as a diagnostic test. An IVD is governed by a different regulatory framework from general medical devices.
Link to this answer: What is an IVD?What do risk classes I, IIa, IIb, III and A, B, C, D mean?
MDR uses classes I, IIa, IIb and III. IVDR uses A, B, C and D. Classification reflects the applicable rules and intended purpose. UDI Compass displays the stored class; it does not assign a class, rank product quality or determine clinical suitability.
Link to this answer: What do risk classes I, IIa, IIb, III and A, B, C, D mean? What is EMDN?
EMDN means European Medical Device Nomenclature. It is the hierarchical vocabulary used to classify device types for EUDAMED registration. An EMDN code describes a category; it is not a unique product identifier, certificate or risk class.
Link to this answer: What is EMDN?Are EMDN, GMDN and CND interchangeable?
No. EMDN is the European Medical Device Nomenclature used for EUDAMED. It was developed from the Italian CND classification. GMDN means Global Medical Device Nomenclature, a separate nomenclature. This app’s category pages use EMDN; do not assume that a GMDN term or an older CND code is an exact one-to-one replacement.
Link to this answer: Are EMDN, GMDN and CND interchangeable? What can I find on an EMDN category page?
Our EMDN pages show the English term, its immediate parent where available, and devices carrying that exact code in our database. The terms come from the official English workbook. A category may have no matching devices in our snapshot; that does not mean the category is invalid.
Link to this answer: What can I find on an EMDN category page? What does “Not in the EMDN list” mean for an older code?
A retired code may remain accessible with its archived term and a notice that it is absent from the current EMDN list. Such pages are excluded from our sitemap and search-engine indexing. The notice concerns the classification code; it does not itself establish the status of a device.
Link to this answer: What does “Not in the EMDN list” mean for an older code? What is an SRN or actor registration number?
An SRN is a Single Registration Number identifying a registered economic operator in EUDAMED. It identifies an actor rather than a device. Use a manufacturer’s SRN to find the corresponding manufacturer page and distinguish organisations with similar names.
Link to this answer: What is an SRN or actor registration number? What are a manufacturer, authorised representative, importer and distributor?
A manufacturer is responsible for a device placed on the market under its name. An authorised representative acts under a manufacturer’s mandate. An importer brings a device from outside the EU onto the EU market; a distributor makes it available further along the supply chain. Our manufacturer pages do not certify every actor in that chain.
Link to this answer: What are a manufacturer, authorised representative, importer and distributor? What is a notified body, and what is NANDO?
A notified body is designated to perform conformity-assessment tasks requiring independent third-party involvement. NANDO is the Commission’s information system for designated bodies and their scope. A notified-body number is different from a manufacturer SRN or a device UDI.
Link to this answer: What is a notified body, and what is NANDO?What are CE marking, conformity assessment and an EU declaration of conformity?
Conformity assessment is the process for demonstrating applicable requirements are met. CE marking indicates conformity with applicable EU requirements. The EU declaration of conformity (DoC) is the manufacturer’s declaration. A directory listing or scan summary does not replace these documents or processes.
Link to this answer: What are CE marking, conformity assessment and an EU declaration of conformity? What are legacy devices, MDD, AIMDD and IVDD?
MDD, AIMDD and IVDD refer to the earlier EU directives for medical devices, active implantable medical devices and in vitro diagnostics. “Legacy” describes devices associated with the earlier framework and applicable transition arrangements. Do not infer a device’s current eligibility from that label alone; check the relevant official guidance and documents.
Link to this answer: What are legacy devices, MDD, AIMDD and IVDD?What do sterile, measuring function, implantable and reusable mean here?
These are characteristics reported in the public device record. A displayed flag tells you what the source recorded. It does not verify the condition of a particular item, supply reprocessing instructions or replace the manufacturer’s instructions for use.
Link to this answer: What do sterile, measuring function, implantable and reusable mean here? What are IFU, SSCP, QMS, PMS, FSCA and FSN?
IFU means instructions for use; SSCP means summary of safety and clinical performance; QMS means quality management system; PMS means post-market surveillance. FSCA means field safety corrective action and FSN means field safety notice. These terms may appear in supporting documentation. UDI Compass does not provide a complete collection of these documents or a comprehensive recall-alert service.
Link to this answer: What are IFU, SSCP, QMS, PMS, FSCA and FSN?Search & directory records
Find the right record and understand missing or unexpected results.
What can I search for?
Use a UDI-DI, Basic UDI-DI, SRN, device name or manufacturer name. Exact identifiers are the strongest way to establish a match. Name search supports partial and similar words; use at least three characters for fuzzy name matching.
Link to this answer: What can I search for?Why can’t I find a device that I know exists?
Check the identifier, packaging level, leading zeroes and any spreadsheet formatting changes first. The record may be missing from our snapshot, use a different identifier, or have changed since our last successful check. Try the manufacturer or device name, then verify on the official portal. No result here is not proof that a device is unregistered.
Link to this answer: Why can’t I find a device that I know exists? What does “Unknown / Not in EUDAMED” mean?
For an unmatched scanner row, it means we could not match that input to a device in our snapshot. On a matched record, an unrecognised certificate status can also produce an unknown badge. Read the underlying device and certificate details; this label is not an authoritative finding that no official registration exists.
Link to this answer: What does “Unknown / Not in EUDAMED” mean? What is a Basic UDI-DI family page?
It lists devices in our database sharing a Basic UDI-DI and links to their individual records. It helps you inspect a group without treating every member as identical. Certificate information can differ between members, so open the specific device you need.
Link to this answer: What is a Basic UDI-DI family page? What is shown on a manufacturer page?
A manufacturer page brings together the stored organisation information and associated devices under its SRN. It is a registry view, not a supplier approval, endorsement, credit check or assessment of manufacturing quality.
Link to this answer: What is shown on a manufacturer page? Why do several records have the same product or manufacturer name?
Names alone need not be unique. Variants, packaging levels and separate device identifiers can have similar commercial names. Compare the exact UDI-DI, Basic UDI-DI and manufacturer SRN instead of choosing the first name match.
Link to this answer: Why do several records have the same product or manufacturer name? Can I share a device record or FAQ answer?
Yes. Share the public page URL. Each FAQ answer also has a “Link to this answer” link. Shared directory pages can change when our snapshot updates; keep the identifier and snapshot date with any internal record of your check.
Link to this answer: Can I share a device record or FAQ answer?Certificates & status labels
What the badges say, how they are chosen, and how to verify them.
What does “Certificate valid” mean?
At least one currently linked certificate is stored as valid, and no linked certificate triggers a higher-priority warning under our badge rules. A missing expiry date can still accompany a stored valid status. The badge summarises our snapshot; it is not a statement that the physical device is safe or that all legal requirements are met.
Link to this answer: What does “Certificate valid” mean? What does “Certificate Expired” mean?
A linked certificate is recorded as expired, or its recorded expiry date is before the current UTC date. A historical date alone does not resolve every regulatory transition or extension question. Check the official record and supporting documentation before deciding what it means for your device.
Link to this answer: What does “Certificate Expired” mean? What do Suspended and Withdrawn mean?
These labels reflect stored suspended or withdrawn certificate status. They are distinct source statuses, not an assessment of the device by UDI Compass. Inspect the certificate, its scope, dates and official record for the reason and implications.
Link to this answer: What do Suspended and Withdrawn mean? What do Cancelled and Refused mean?
Cancelled and Refused are shown separately when the linked certificate has that stored status. Neither is treated as Certificate valid. A badge does not explain why the source assigned the status; consult the underlying record.
Link to this answer: What do Cancelled and Refused mean? What does Restricted mean?
A linked certificate is recorded with a restricted status. Read its scope and the official record to understand the restriction. A single badge cannot describe which products, activities or conditions are affected.
Link to this answer: What does Restricted mean?Does “No Certificate Found” mean a device is non-compliant?
No. It means our record has no currently linked certificate available to display. Source coverage, linking and the applicable conformity-assessment route can affect what appears. Not every device requires the same notified-body involvement. Verify the device’s documentation and applicable requirements.
Link to this answer: Does “No Certificate Found” mean a device is non-compliant?How is a badge chosen when a device has several certificates?
The current order is: Certificate Expired, Suspended, Withdrawn, Cancelled, Refused, Restricted, then Certificate valid. The first applicable condition wins across currently linked certificates. An older expired certificate can therefore determine the badge even if another certificate is valid. Read all linked certificate details, not just the summary.
Link to this answer: How is a badge chosen when a device has several certificates? What is certificate scope, and why does it matter?
Scope describes what a certificate covers. UDI Compass shows the stored scope summary where available on device details, scanner results and paid PDF rows. A missing summary is not a claim of unlimited scope. Check the full certificate and its relationship to the exact device.
Link to this answer: What is certificate scope, and why does it matter? Is a certificate expiry date the same as the expiry date on a product?
No. A certificate expiry date concerns a regulatory certificate. The date on a pack may concern the shelf life of a specific lot or unit. UDI Compass’s certificate monitoring does not monitor the shelf life of your stock.
Link to this answer: Is a certificate expiry date the same as the expiry date on a product? What does the Expiring certificates page show?
It lists devices whose earliest currently linked, valid certificate expiry falls within the next 90 days. It is a view of stored dates, not a complete recall list or a determination that a device must be withdrawn on that date.
Link to this answer: What does the Expiring certificates page show?Is the certificate-status report an official certificate or audit?
No. The downloadable PDF is a scan summary of matched identifiers and stored certificate information. It includes the EUDAMED snapshot date and is not an official EUDAMED document, a notified-body certificate or a compliance audit. It can support your internal recordkeeping alongside the official documents.

Where does UDI Compass get its data?
Device, actor and certificate information comes from public EUDAMED sources. EMDN terms come from the official English nomenclature workbook. The service uses public sources rather than access to your organisation’s restricted EUDAMED account.
Link to this answer: Where does UDI Compass get its data? What does the EUDAMED snapshot date mean?
It is the date of our last successful source check, including a successful check where the downloaded content was unchanged. It is not necessarily the date a manufacturer updated a record. Look for it in the site footer, results, reports and monitoring emails.
Link to this answer: What does the EUDAMED snapshot date mean? How often is the data updated? Is it live?
A public-data refresh is scheduled daily. It can take time to complete, and upstream availability or processing failures can delay a successful update. The displayed snapshot date tells you which successful check you are seeing. A daily schedule does not mean a live connection or a guaranteed maximum delay.
Link to this answer: How often is the data updated? Is it live? What does “not today’s EUDAMED” mean?
The footer adds this wording when the last successful snapshot is more than seven days old. It signals that you should pay particular attention to freshness. Even a recent snapshot can lag a change made in the official system.
Link to this answer: What does “not today’s EUDAMED” mean?Does the directory contain every device, certificate and recall?
No completeness guarantee is made. Public availability, source coverage, identifier quality, linking and update timing all affect results. The service does not provide complete vigilance, incident, recall or restricted-module coverage. Use the appropriate official sources for those checks.
Link to this answer: Does the directory contain every device, certificate and recall? What happens when a device or certificate link disappears from the source?
After a complete successful public download, the app can mark a previously seen device as no longer listed and close certificate links that are no longer present. An incomplete run does not establish disappearance. A delisting event describes source coverage; it should not automatically be interpreted as a recall or ban.
Link to this answer: What happens when a device or certificate link disappears from the source? How do I report incorrect information?
Email info@snoeterssoftware.nl with our page URL, the official URL, the exact identifier and a clear description of the mismatch. We acknowledge registry-mismatch reports within two business days. If our page diverges from the official record, we correct or unpublish it. A disagreement with an accurately reproduced official record must also be raised with the responsible source.
Link to this answer: How do I report incorrect information?May I reuse information from UDI Compass?
Our licence page explains the CC BY 4.0 attribution basis for reused public EUDAMED records, including source credit and indicating changes. Do not present our output as official, imply endorsement, or use Commission or EUDAMED logos. The service’s acceptable-use terms also apply; a reuse licence is not permission to overload the site.
Link to this answer: May I reuse information from UDI Compass?CSV scanner & PDF reports
Prepare a file, understand matches, and keep your inventory private.
How does the UDI inventory scanner work?
Choose a CSV file, review the detected UDI-DI and Basic UDI-DI columns, and run the scan. The file is parsed in your browser. Only identifier values and numeric row indexes are sent for lookup. Results show matched device and manufacturer information, stored certificate status and available scope summaries.
Link to this answer: How does the UDI inventory scanner work? What are CSV and PDF?
CSV means comma-separated values: a plain-text format for rows and columns that most spreadsheet and inventory tools can export. PDF means Portable Document Format, used for the downloadable scan summary. The scanner reads the CSV identifiers; it does not extract an inventory from a PDF report.
Link to this answer: What are CSV and PDF?Can I upload Excel files? What file size is supported?
Export your sheet as CSV before scanning. Native .xlsx and .xls workbooks are not parsed. The file limit is 15 MB. Keep identifiers as text, include a header row and check the column preview before you run the scan.
Link to this answer: Can I upload Excel files? What file size is supported?Which CSV columns should I use?
Use a clear header such as UDI-DI, UDI, GTIN or Barcode for device identifiers, and Basic UDI-DI or Basic UDI for family identifiers. Review the suggested mapping and select the correct column if needed. A commercial name can help you recognise a row, but the lookup uses identifiers.
Link to this answer: Which CSV columns should I use?Does my spreadsheet leave my computer?
No. The CSV stays in your browser. The lookup payload contains selected UDI-DI or Basic UDI-DI values and a numeric row index, not the spreadsheet or its supplier, quantity, price, patient or staff columns. If you save an inventory, its identifier list and the label you choose are stored.
Link to this answer: Does my spreadsheet leave my computer? Can I scan a file containing patient or staff information?
Prepare an identifiers-only export wherever possible. Do not send patient names, staff names or health data. The scanner excludes recognised sensitive columns and rejects unsuitable identifier cells, but those safeguards are not a reason to put sensitive information in an identifier column, inventory label or support message.
Link to this answer: Can I scan a file containing patient or staff information? Why are some scanner results locked?
Lookup provides a 5-identifier preview per file. Paid scanner allowances are 2,000 unique identifiers per calendar month on Watch and 10,000 on API. Rows beyond the available allowance are locked. A locked row is not a negative certificate finding.
Link to this answer: Why are some scanner results locked?Do duplicates, repeat scans and blank rows count towards my allowance?
On paid plans, the same normalised identifier counts once within a UTC calendar month. Rechecking that identifier in the same month does not consume another unique-identifier slot. Blank rows do not count. Unmatched identifiers can still consume allowance: the quota measures lookups, not only successful matches. API GET requests use a separate monthly request counter shared across your keys and lookup endpoints. An admitted lookup counts even if the record is missing, the identifier is invalid, or the lookup fails; retries count again. Missing identifiers and authentication, rate-limit or quota rejections do not count.
Link to this answer: Do duplicates, repeat scans and blank rows count towards my allowance?Does scanning a Basic UDI-DI check every member of the family?
The scanner can match a Basic UDI-DI to a device in the stored family, but a scanner row is not a complete family-wide assessment. Open the Basic UDI-DI family page to inspect individual members, or supply each UDI-DI separately when you need a row-by-row inventory check.
Link to this answer: Does scanning a Basic UDI-DI check every member of the family? Can I scan a barcode using my phone camera?
The current UDI Scanner processes CSV inventories; it is not a camera barcode reader. You can use a separate scanner or inventory system to collect identifiers, then export those identifiers as CSV.
Link to this answer: Can I scan a barcode using my phone camera? Can I save an inventory and check it again later?
Watch and API accounts can save identifier lists with a label. Saved inventories are available in your account and can be subscribed for re-checks under your plan’s cadence. Saving a list is different from downloading a PDF and does not store the original spreadsheet.
Link to this answer: Can I save an inventory and check it again later? How do I download a certificate-status report?
Run a scan while signed in with a paid plan, then use the PDF download control in the results. The PDF records that scan and its snapshot date; it does not automatically update when the source changes. Run a fresh scan when you need a new report.
Link to this answer: How do I download a certificate-status report? Why is my CSV unreadable or producing unexpected matches?
Check that you exported CSV rather than renamed an Excel file, that the header and identifier columns are correct, and that leading zeroes or special characters survived. Remove empty rows and unrelated columns, then try a small identifiers-only sample. If the issue persists, send support the error and a non-sensitive example identifier rather than your full inventory.
Link to this answer: Why is my CSV unreadable or producing unexpected matches?Watches & email alerts
Individual devices, whole families, monitoring cadence and reminders.
What is a UDI watch?
A watch is a saved monitoring subscription for a device identifier or Basic UDI-DI family. It lets the app re-check stored information and send the emails included in your plan. It is different from a one-off public lookup or saving a page bookmark.
Link to this answer: What is a UDI watch? How do Watch and API monitoring differ?
Watch provides monthly re-checks against our EUDAMED snapshot. API includes change emails on the same day our snapshot successfully updates. “Same day” refers to our successful update, not the instant an official record changes. Source delays and email delivery can affect when you receive a message.
Link to this answer: How do Watch and API monitoring differ? How many devices can I watch?
Watch includes up to 2,000 watches and API up to 10,000. Lookup has no persistent watches. The watch cap is separate from the monthly scanner allowance.
Link to this answer: How many devices can I watch? Can I watch an entire Basic UDI-DI family?
Yes, on Watch and API. A Basic UDI-DI family watch counts as one watch, and follows that plan’s monitoring cadence. It can cover changes to stored members and new registrations added to the family. Coverage depends on the family relationships available in our snapshot.
Link to this answer: Can I watch an entire Basic UDI-DI family? What kinds of changes can produce an email?
API-plan change emails cover supported stored certificate-status changes, certificate-link changes, manufacturer changes and device delisting, with family context where relevant. Family monitoring can also report a newly registered family member. Watch’s monthly re-check summarises the current snapshot. This is not a comprehensive safety-notice or recall feed.
Link to this answer: What kinds of changes can produce an email? Are there certificate expiry reminders?
Watch and API include reminders at the 90-, 60- and 30-day points before a stored certificate expiry date. They depend on available dates, active monitoring and a working email address. They concern certificate expiry, not a pack’s use-by date.
Link to this answer: Are there certificate expiry reminders?Does no email mean nothing changed or the certificate is still valid?
No. Check your plan cadence, watch settings, snapshot date and spam folder. A source or delivery delay may also explain the silence. Verify the official record when you need an up-to-date answer; absence of an email is not a certificate-status confirmation.
Link to this answer: Does no email mean nothing changed or the certificate is still valid? How do I stop watching a device or stop an alert email?
Manage watches in your account or use the unsubscribe control in the relevant alert email. Review any inventory subscription as well if it covers the same device. Stopping a watch or unsubscribing from alerts does not cancel your paid subscription.
Link to this answer: How do I stop watching a device or stop an alert email? What should I do after receiving a change alert?
Open the linked record, compare the identifier, certificate and snapshot date, and verify the official information. Follow your organisation’s quality procedure for documenting the check and contacting the supplier or responsible authority. UDI Compass does not automatically quarantine stock, notify your customers or make a release decision.

Can I subscribe to Watch or API now?
Watch and API subscriptions are not open yet. Lookup and the public scanner preview remain available. You can request one email when subscriptions open from the pricing page. Creating an account or requesting that email does not start a paid subscription.
Link to this answer: Can I subscribe to Watch or API now? What is the difference between Lookup, Watch and API?
Lookup includes public directory search and a 5-identifier scanner preview. Watch adds 2,000 unique scanner identifiers per month, PDF reports, saved inventories and 2,000 watches with monthly re-checks. API raises the scanner and watch allowances to 10,000, adds same-update-day change emails and REST API keys.
Link to this answer: What is the difference between Lookup, Watch and API?How much do subscriptions cost?
Watch is €59 per month or €590 per year. API is €149 per month or €1,490 per year. Prices are in EUR excluding VAT. Review the applicable tax and final total when checkout opens. Public Lookup is free.
Link to this answer: How much do subscriptions cost?Is billing monthly or annual? When do usage limits reset?
Paid plans offer monthly and annual billing when subscriptions are open. Annual billing is paid for the year; it does not turn a monthly scanner allowance into one annual pool. Usage is measured by UTC calendar month, while renewal follows your subscription’s billing schedule. Check the renewal date and amount in billing.
Link to this answer: Is billing monthly or annual? When do usage limits reset? Is there a free trial or a free persistent watch?
The free way to try the service is public Lookup and its scanner preview. Lookup does not include a persistent watch, PDF report, saved inventory or API key. No paid-plan trial is promised here; any offer must be explicitly shown at checkout.
Link to this answer: Is there a free trial or a free persistent watch? Why does Paddle appear at checkout or on my invoice?
Paddle is the merchant of record (MoR), the seller handling paid purchases. It handles the purchase, applicable tax and customer invoice. Snoeters Software provides the UDI Compass software service. The service terms and Paddle’s purchase terms cover different parts of that relationship.
Link to this answer: Why does Paddle appear at checkout or on my invoice? Are prices inclusive of VAT, and can I get a business invoice?
VAT means value-added tax. Prices are shown in EUR excluding VAT. Paddle calculates the applicable tax and issues the invoice. Enter accurate business and tax details at checkout and review the total before paying. Tax treatment depends on the purchase details; this FAQ does not promise a VAT exemption.
Link to this answer: Are prices inclusive of VAT, and can I get a business invoice?Do subscriptions renew, and how do I cancel?
Monthly and annual subscriptions are recurring. Use the billing portal linked from your account, or the control in your Paddle receipt, to review renewal and cancellation options. Check the effective cancellation date shown there and keep the confirmation. Unsubscribing from watch emails does not cancel billing.
Link to this answer: Do subscriptions renew, and how do I cancel? Can I upgrade, downgrade or change my billing interval?
Review the options available in your account’s billing page and Paddle portal. Any effective date, credit or additional charge should be checked there before you confirm. If the change you need is unavailable, contact support. This FAQ does not promise immediate changes or a particular proration policy.
Link to this answer: Can I upgrade, downgrade or change my billing interval? How do refunds and consumer withdrawal work?
Purchase refunds follow the Paddle Buyer Terms. Our billing notice states that consumers may withdraw from the Paddle purchase within 14 days without giving a reason, using the portal or receipt control. Signing in, running a lookup or starting a watch does not waive that right. Business purchases and other refund requests should be checked against the applicable purchase terms.
Link to this answer: How do refunds and consumer withdrawal work? What if I paid but my account still shows Lookup?
Check that you are signed in with the email used for the purchase, then refresh your billing page. Plan access follows the payment confirmation received by the app. If it still looks wrong, contact support with the purchase reference and account email. Do not send card details or buy a second subscription to fix it.
Link to this answer: What if I paid but my account still shows Lookup? What happens when my paid subscription ends?
Paid access follows the plan on your account. Once it returns to Lookup, paid scanner allowances, PDF access, saved-inventory features, monitoring and API access are no longer included. Export any reports you need beforehand. Do not assume cancelling a subscription also deletes your account or all stored data.
Link to this answer: What happens when my paid subscription ends? Are team seats, SSO, custom contracts or unlimited usage included?
The published plans apply to an account and its stated allowances. The API plan does not by itself promise shared team seats, SAML SSO, unlimited requests, a dedicated integration or a custom service-level agreement (SLA). SSO means single sign-on; enterprise SAML SSO is different from the Google or Microsoft sign-in buttons. Contact support about requirements beyond the published plans before purchasing.
Link to this answer: Are team seats, SSO, custom contracts or unlimited usage included? How does the subscription-opening email work?
While subscriptions are closed, a visitor can request one opening email on the pricing page. New accounts are set to receive it by default and can turn it off on the account page before it is sent. It is a single notice, not a paid order or a recurring marketing newsletter.

How do I create an account or sign in?
Use the sign-in page and accept the linked terms. You can request a magic link by email or use Google or Microsoft when the corresponding button is shown. The app does not ask you to create a password. Use an email address you control and intend to keep for your account.
Link to this answer: How do I create an account or sign in?What is a magic link, and why hasn’t mine arrived?
A magic link is an email link that signs you in. Check that you entered the right address, inspect spam or quarantine, and use the newest link. If it has expired or was already used, request another. Contact support if repeated attempts fail; never forward a sign-in link to someone else.
Link to this answer: What is a magic link, and why hasn’t mine arrived? What personal data does UDI Compass keep?
The service stores information needed for your account, sign-in, plan and enabled features, such as your email, saved identifier lists, watch settings and API-key records. It may process IP addresses and user-agent information for security. Paddle handles checkout data; UDI Compass does not store your card number. The privacy notice gives the full purposes, retention rules and recipients.
Link to this answer: What personal data does UDI Compass keep? How do I delete my account? Does that cancel billing?
Use the account page to request deletion. It removes your email, ends sessions, deletes watches and saved inventories, revokes API keys and removes your subscription-opening address. The remaining anonymised account row is removed after 30 days. Manage any active Paddle subscription separately before deleting your account; account deletion is not a substitute for confirmed billing cancellation.
Link to this answer: How do I delete my account? Does that cancel billing? What is GDPR, and does it apply to my inventory?
GDPR is the General Data Protection Regulation, the EU’s personal-data protection framework. A regulatory device identifier is not personal data by itself, but a file linking a device to an identifiable patient or staff member can contain personal data. Use an identifiers-only export and follow the privacy notice; the app is not designed to receive patient information.
Link to this answer: What is GDPR, and does it apply to my inventory? How do I request access, correction or deletion of personal data?
Email privacy@snoeterssoftware.nl for privacy requests, including access, correction, portability or other rights described in the privacy notice. Account deletion is also available in the app. Do not include patient records, passwords or API secrets in your request.
Link to this answer: How do I request access, correction or deletion of personal data? How can I get help, and what support is included?
Email info@snoeterssoftware.nl. Paid plans list email support with a two-business-day response time; Lookup includes documentation. Describe the page, identifier, time and error, using non-sensitive examples. A support reply is not a regulatory opinion or an emergency service.
Link to this answer: How can I get help, and what support is included?Who operates UDI Compass, and where are the legal documents?
UDI Compass is published by Snoeters Software in the Netherlands. Publisher and registration details are on the Legal notice page. The Terms, privacy notice and data-reuse licence are linked below and in the footer. The Terms and privacy notice also have downloadable text copies.

Authentication, endpoints, quotas and common integration errors.
What is the UDI Compass REST API?
The REST API lets software request structured JSON records instead of manually reading directory pages. It is included on the API plan. A REST API is an HTTP interface; JSON is the response-data format. It is UDI Compass’s interface to its snapshot, not the official EUDAMED API.
Link to this answer: What is the UDI Compass REST API?How do I obtain and protect an API key?
Sign in with the API plan and create a key on the API keys page. Copy the full key when it is shown, store it securely on your server and send it using Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY. Do not place it in a public webpage, URL, repository or support message. Revoke an exposed key and create a replacement. Lookup and Watch cannot create keys.
Link to this answer: How do I obtain and protect an API key?Which API endpoints are available?
Device lookup supports GET /api/v1/udi/{code} and GET /api/v1/udi?code=... . Manufacturer lookup uses GET /api/v1/manufacturer/{srn}. POST /api/v1/scan accepts identifier rows for a metered batch scan. URL-encode identifier values, especially those containing plus signs, slashes or other reserved characters. Send JSON identifier rows to the scanner, not a CSV upload.
Link to this answer: Which API endpoints are available? What are the API rate and monthly limits?
API lookups and authenticated scanner requests share a limit of 60 requests per minute per account; each API key also has that limit. Scanner requests without an API key additionally have a 30-per-minute IP limit. The monthly allowance is 10,000 metered GET lookup requests per account per UTC calendar month. Repeated GET lookups count as requests, including processed lookups that return no match. Scanner usage is counted separately by unique normalised identifiers. Public directory browsing does not consume these paid counters.
Link to this answer: What are the API rate and monthly limits? What do API errors 400, 401, 403, 404 and 429 mean?
400 means the request or identifier is invalid. 401 means authentication is missing or the key is invalid or revoked. 403 means the account lacks the required permission or plan. 404 means the requested record was not found. 429 means a rate or monthly quota limit was reached; inspect the error code and respect Retry-After when returned. Retrying cannot fix an exhausted monthly quota.
Link to this answer: What do API errors 400, 401, 403, 404 and 429 mean? Why does the API say Active while the website says Certificate valid?
Active is the stored API badge value whose public display label is Certificate valid. It describes the certificate summary produced by the app. It is not a general device approval. Keep that distinction when displaying API results in your own software.
Link to this answer: Why does the API say Active while the website says Certificate valid?Does the API have newer data than the website?
The API and website use the same underlying snapshot. API access does not make the source real-time or remove missing records. Preserve snapshot information in your own workflow and handle unavailable data explicitly.
Link to this answer: Does the API have newer data than the website?Do you provide ERP integrations, customer webhooks or a full database download?
The published integration is the REST lookup and scan API. An ERP is an enterprise resource planning system. A ready-made ERP connector, outbound customer webhook, full database export or unlimited bulk-download licence is not included in the published plans. Contact support to discuss a specific workflow before assuming those capabilities.

For help with the app, include the page URL, identifier and what you expected to see. Keep patient information, passwords and payment details out of your message.
